State Senator Melissa Hurtado Endorses Jim Costa for Congress

Congressman Jim Costa has earned the endorsement of State Senator Melissa Hurtado, Costa’s campaign announced today.

Senator Hurtado said: “Jim Costa understands the Valley and we need someone with his experience in Congress. Jim has been a fearless advocate for our families, standing up for our shared Valley values. From defending our DREAMers, to making sure our economy leaves no one behind, and expanding access to healthcare throughout our communities, Jim works hard to fight for the Valley both as a Congressmember and also as an ally in Sacramento. I’m proud to support my friend Jim Costa for Congress.”

Senator Hurtado was first elected to represent the 14th Senate District in 2018 when she defeated an incumbent Republican legislator. Prior to her election, she was a member of the Sanger City Council and worked to increase healthcare access among the Valley’s most underserved communities.

“I’m honored to have Senator Hurtado’s support,” said Congressman Costa. “Senator Hurtado is one of our Valley’s greatest voices for families, immigrants, farmers and working men and women. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Senator Hurtado as we deliver even more for our Valley.”

Senator Hurtado’s endorsement is the latest for Congressman Costa as he continues to rack up support from local and statewide leaders and organizations. They include Governor Gavin Newsom, Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis, Attorney General Xavier Becerra, numerous local mayors and councilmembers, Fresno County Democratic Women in Action, Equality California and others. Costa also recently reported having raised over $1.22 million for his 2020 re-election, with a war chest of $505,633 that is ready to deploy in this campaign.

The Primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
